Bag Day brings to the community!
Bag Day started in 1988 as a fun and easy way to support Northampton retailers, restaurants and service providers in a local kick off to the holiday shopping season. Over the years, this annual tradition showcased a custom shopping bag that listed the names of participants who offered discounts to Bag Day shoppers. The promotion was altered by the pandemic but, last year, the bag returned, and so did the enthusiasm for Bag Day and shopping local businesses!
Bag Day takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving, providing a unique Northampton shopping experience for locals and visitors to enjoy. Shoppers can pickup a commemorative bag at participating locations or Thornes Marketplace on Bag Day and use it as a "check list" while shopping.
Support our Northampton businesses and enjoy early holiday discounts! Simply grab a bag, visit participating locations (listed below and on the bag) and have fun in this annual community event!

Bags will also be available* at the offices of the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce and
Daily Hampshire Gazette between 10 am and 2pm Monday, November 17 - November 21.

The 2025 bag image was designed by Alison Wood, Wood Strategy and Design,
a well known local graphic designer. The front features a whimsical seasonal theme
with a city-scape reminiscent of Northampton. The back lists all the participants
with checkboxes for shoppers to "check their shopping list" while scooping up Bag Day discounts.
